How to Wear Baseball Caps Without Looking Like A Teenager This Fall

Many of us have been confronted at one point in our life with the classic American accessory; the baseball cap. Whether we played sports growing up, loved the convenience, supported our favorite team or used it to block the sun; the baseball cap is one accessory that has been used for both fashion and function. Whatever your past experience with baseball caps, now is an ideal time to revisit this classic headwear.

I love switching my hats based on my outfit and mood. I firmly believe that wearing an outfit that emotionally resonates with you can boost your self-esteem and gain your capacity to slay a day!

Here’s the thing, I wear baseball caps from time to time either at the gym or hiking, or simply a bad hair day. Honestly I never considered making them to fashion. Until I scrolled through Google Search and I found this title “How to Wear A Baseball Cap Without Looking like A Teenager” by Fashion Beans and I thought this title really spoke to me – this was a reason why I didn’t wear ball caps more often. So I saw this fashion challenge for me as an opportunity to get creative and show you how to collaborate your favorite baseball caps this fall.

Ponyflo is one of the first baseball hats that has been designed by a woman for women. They create their unique baseball caps that allows the entire hat to open in the back, and comfortably fit all ponytails, hair buns, half-buns to flow through easily and adjust perfectly to your hair (I now have a short bob hair, but I like to do a messy half-bun for an edgier look). I remember myself back in the days with a long straight hair that pulled it to a ponytail and wanted to throw a men’s baseball cap on – it was an uncomfortable situation; the opening was set too low and the hole was too small. I love that Minsun Kim, a founder and creative director of Ponyflo took this problem seriously and came up with a solution to help women wearing their baseball caps that fit BEST (especially with any updo hairstyles like ponytail and buns).

Today, I’m sharing with you some of my favorite headpieces from Ponyflo Classic collection (There are four collections: Classic, Active, Meshback and Kids – all are AMAZING as they have so many chic options)!

Luxe Monochrome

Neutral or tan colored hat can work for almost any occasion, from the most casual to the fancy! I went casual with a leopard-print t-shirt and a black leather pencil skirt. Make the look daring and tailored at the same time with the additional of a trench coat and a vintage washed tan cap. To me this, outfit is the perfect combination of city life meets wide side.

Style tips: Using the light neutrals for the base of your outfit and adding darker neutrals for an entry-level monochrome styling to keep the entire look polished. Or the other way, adding a contrasting hue or statement print such as leopard print to help insipid shades pop and stop a look from blending into the background.

Street Style Cool

A vintage washed camouflage printed cap looks effortless when paired with a minimalist tailored faux leather shorts, a soft fine knit sweater and knee-high boots. This seasonless hat has a statement silhouette that can be paired from a slip black dress to a casual outfit.

Style tips: To pull off successful look that incorporates a pop of camo, don’t overthink it. “Camouflage is a super versatile print, “ Los Angeles-based stylist Sarah Schussheim says. “You can treat it either as a main print in your wardrobe and pair it with a simple cashmere sweater. On the other hand, you can also treat it as a neutral and toss a camo hat over anything, really! Stripes, plaid, solid…” The versatility is endless!

I highly recommend this brand! Use code: THATHATGIRL25 to receive 25% off on your first purchase. Finding the perfect caps that fit with your ponytails and buns have never been easier! And yes, a baseball cap can make it FASHION!

  1. I like your suggestion to use light neutral colors and add darker ones to create a polished look with a baseball cap. I’ve been thinking about buying some clothing I can wear when I go out to show everyone that I support cultural diversity. A baseball cap would be a fun thing to incorporate, so thanks for sharing these tips about how to create stylish outfits with them!
