Trust Me – These 8 Hat Trends Will Be Everywhere This Fall

Fall is here, which means one thing; I can’t stop thinking about all the cozy hats like felt fedoras, cloches, berets, and beanies that I’m going to wear this season. Even though, I already have a pretty solid hat collection, I always tend to add a few more fun hats to refresh my wardrobe staples that probably end up being my go-to accessories to keep me cozy and cool in the next six months.

Admit it: there are some trends that have started taking over the fashion industry from major runways to celebrities and streetwear since last year with no sign of slowing down. I’m talking about bucket hats, daddy caps and cowboy hats. For me, I’m 100% up to these trends.

So, what changed you might ask? Three things: 1) fun silhouettes, shapes or/and colors, 2) fun ways of styling them, and 3) there’s something about the holiday and festival season that brings out happiness in people. I can say that wearing hats this year after two full years of pandemic is about having fun and showing off your personality. Bright colors, playful designs, and statement making patterns – I’ll take the whole lot.

Keep scrolling to get ahead of the trend and see a few of the outfit combinations for your fall fashion outfit inspiration you’ll want to wear on repeat.

The Fedora Hat

A core staple that come back each season, a felt fedora is the style that you should add to your closet if you haven’t already. While there are so many different styles of felt fedoras to choose from, do you know the prices are various based on grades and types of felts? The most expensive felt is Chinchilla, then Mink, pure Beaver, suede Rabbit, velour Rabbit and mixed woven felt.

I’m seeing more and more of this trend made with vivid colored felts like pink, red, orange, green, purple and cobalt. Some hat brands like Eugenia Kim F/W21 hat collection spices things up by combining two colors together like pink and red or black and white – this makes their jaw-dropping hats more like cotton candy on top for modern hat lovers. Also, this fall, fashion people will go with a bigger brim or bold, surprising looks and bring back “Let the hat do the talking” in the process. While you can style a felt fedora in pretty much anything, I love to pair it with a mini skirt or midi skirt and an oversized shacket heading into fall.

The Floppy Hat

Every fashion girl knows the ‘70s are back in a big way and floppy hat is usually a moment reserved for boho-esque style. I will not lie, I hated the floppy hats when I first saw them (because I would rather wear fedoras) Now, however, I find myself adding at least a new floppy hat every fall season. Why? Simple, casual, warm, practical, and not to mention easy to toss in your bag or tote without a second thought– this hat is perfect for those who tend to be a little rough with their belonging, but still want to invest in fashionable pieces (that sounds about right for me!). I have them in rust and rich brown color, they are forward colors for fall. Side note: floppy hats can be dressing up formal or casually, but I love pairing it with an oversized shacket, a crop top, a plaid mini skirt and a pair of boots. Go with tonal outfit if you want to highlight “cohesiveness” to your outfit.

The Baker boy Cap

If you gravitate toward sleek and sophisticated looks like a cool Parisian chic girl, plus you already have a bunch of berets in your closet, the baker boy cap is the next style to try. It’s one of those anchoring pieces that every French girl owns at least one. We’ve seen tonal hats like soft creams, camels, healthy greys and blacks are essentials for fall, but recently I’ve also seen major hat and fashion brands mixing up cool features; pearls and chunky gold chains into their designs. I can say the baker boy cap comes in different materials, but heading to the cold-weather months, velvet, corduroy and felt are popular among the others. Whether you’re slipping into your favorite pair of boyfriend jeans, an oversized vest sweater, a biker leather jacket or a luxe matching knit set, this hat will make any outfit feels directional and effortlessly cool.

The Beret

It doesn’t take a celebrity stylist or fashion historian to know that beret is the style formula to approach a Parisian chic girl. Other than its simplicity and effortless cool, it seems to just look right every time you put it on. What’s special about beret this season is adding fresh and surprising elements like plaids, animal prints or embroideries into the hat. The result? A conversational accessory that is discreetly chic, able to take you from Monday-through-Friday work attires to date nights or after-work parties and to all of fall’s invites. Whether you opt for a classic monochromatic beret or a bold style beret, you truly can’t go wrong. Style it with anything from micro hemlines to long trench coats or knit dresses for a directional and chic look.

The Bucket Hat

The bucket hat trend has taken over on accessory trend and worn among celebrities since 2019 and keep making a huge impact on the F/W21 runways in general. You’ll spot bucket hats in the fall collections of designers like Lowe and Off-White in leather, quilt or mixed materials. I also love streetwear style brands like Kangal with furry bucket hats in different colors (I love it so much, so I have to have it in every (bright) color). If you’re after comfort and style, pair it with a tank top, a loose-fit leather pants and an oversized cardigan. Styling Tip: pull a range of shades in the same color from your outfit to match with your bucket hat and create a cohesive outfit.

The Baseball Cap

Who said baseball caps aka daddy caps were just for a hiking day or a football night? Autumn/Winter 2021’s runways like; Dolce & Gabbana, Etro, and Gucci, prove that fashion baseball hats add an instant cool factor (and the new luxury) to just about any look. This season, instead of wearing a classic baseball cap, consider one in embellishments like beads chain, pom pom, or attention-grabbing prints like animal prints or retro fabrics or simply just a logo or a punch line for a fashion-forward look. Whether you top off the baseball cap on a sport bra and leggings or a matching set of mini skirt or a cute turtleneck midi dress, you truly can’t go wrong (these combos will be on repeat).

The Cowboy Hat

Like it or not, the cowboy hat trend is already taking over Instagram, Tiktok, and among the celeb set. Recently, I spotted Jennifer Lopez at the Met Gala 2021 channeling her wild, wild west in a couture gown by Ralph Lauren, and a statement wide brimmed cowboy hat with a chunky Western choker and necklace. Controversial? Yes. Cool? She really embraces the trend and makes it so daring and exciting.

For me, I I’m so excited about the cowboy-hat wave that’s taking over. I love cowboy hats and have been wearing them for a while, so now I get a chance to see how other people embrace this statement piece. Personally, I think cowboy hats are so versatile, yet very comfortable. In the past people thought of cowboy hats within the western aesthetics, so I’m happy to see more and more people incorporate this piece into their streetstyle wear or even a red-carpet moment. The classic, authentic cowboy hats from Stetson USA are great (they carry a huge selection of both cowboy hats and boots – you can get cowboy gear all in one place). Then, there are also cowboy hats from American Hat Makers and Charlie 1 Horse Hats who are focusing on cowboy hats by doing their own version of it, which make the hats are more fun and accessible for people who have different styles to try it.

The Beanie

I believe everyone owns at least one beanie in their closet (I think I have at least 50 beanies -they are so soft and fluffy; I seriously can use it as a pillow). One of the most convenient winter hats makes it a must-have for six months ahead, the beanie is a go-to for men, women and children. When choosing a beanie, opt for a colorful one from a chill pastel vibe to intense neon color. This is such a simple way for making winter style more interesting. While most of your winter uniforms are classic black, adding a colored beanie helps changing things up in the best way possible. If you want to break out the outfit routine, wear a colorful outfit up with 2-3 colors and have a beanie matched up with one of the colors from your outfit to make a cohesive and polished look.
