How to Measure Your Hat Size for The Perfect Fit

Whether you want to add flair to your outfit or cover up a bad hair day, you’ll want a hat that fits perfect on you.

White you may be concerned to find the perfect look with your hat, it’s also important about the perfect fit. In the ideal world, I’d recommend you to go to a brick-and-mortar hat store and try it on one by one until you find the one you like. But you know there are many emerging designer brands that sell only online or have a retail store in a location that is not convenient for you to make a trip. Imagine if you live on the east coast, and your desirable store is located on the west coast – if you plan a vacation there and want to stop by the hat store, it’s great! but it doesn’t make sense to buy a plane ticket just to get the perfect hat that you’ve been seeking.

to accurately measure your hat size, you’ll need to know how you’d wear your hat. There are two ways: Halo and Traditional.

Style 1 – Halo, this is the “halo” style of wearing a hat. Choose this option if this is the way you’d like to wear your hat.

  1. Grab a tape measure (especially the soft kind used by tailors) or a string, which you can later measure adjacent to a ruler.
  2. Place the measure around the furthest, lower part of the back of your head and bring it around to the top of your forehead, which should be about 5 mm above your ears and place near the top of your hairline.

Style 2 – Traditional, this is the “traditional” style of wearing a hat. Choose this option if this is the way you’d like to wear your hat.

  1. Grab a tape measure (especially the soft kind used by tailors) or a string, which you can later measure adjacent to a ruler.
  2. Place the measure around the back of your head and bring it around to the center of your forehead or just above the eyebrows (depending on where you want your hat to sit).

Check what size your measuring tape says. Make sure the tape measure should be neither too tight nor too loose. While many designers offer a size chart specific to the brand, I suggest using no brand specific measurement. If you are in between sizes, I recommend going up a size.
