I truly can’t believe we almost made it halfway through January and we’ve reached the point in the winter in which it’s cold every single day. While I’ve been living in sweatpants loungewear trends when I want to be cozy, I’m also making an effort to get dressed up, be Zoom-ready or on standby for my weekly grocery runs, post office and errands around town.
If you’re anything like me who loves the idea of wearing sweats but wants to rethink how you can style them in new and different ways adding a cute hat definitely is a fun upgrade. (comfort yet still fashion-forward is the moto!) With everything from furry bucket hat at Kangol to slouchy beanie at San Diego Hat Company, there are plenty of cool hat designs to elevate your sweatpants game.
With A Furry Bucket Hat
A furry, bucket hat is my Winter wardrobe staple and I’ve been wearing this Kangol Plush Rap Hat on rotation all Winter. I love a set of simple sweats, so I styled a graphic sweatshirt by tucking the half front of the sweatshirt in leopard sweatpants. To kick things up a notch, I suggest wearing it with a white chic wool coat. Then, to finish add some high-shine jewelry and a Kangol faux fur bucket hat to give that preppy, polished feel and clearly state “I didn’t just roll out of bed!”
To remedy your neutral hat fatigue, try switching to either the Kangol Fiery Orange Furgora Bucket Hat or Dusty Rose Furgora Bucket Hat.

Throw On A Wide Brim Felt Hat
It’s no surprise that the ultimate throw-it-on-and-go hat like the wide brim fedora would be worn with a cozy lounge sweatpants set. They are actually a great no-brainer combo and an obvious choice to achieve street-style status in no time. As it’s been a cool 30 degrees here in New Jersey (and I’d rather be in my pajamas wrapping myself in a blanket), I’m taking the sweatsuit love to the next level. With a flannel shirt layered underneath a pullover that’s equal parts chic and practical, top it off with a felt hat of your choice (the wider the brim, the better in my book). I’m very dawn to red color recently (My guess is I’m still in holiday hangover plus the month of love is coming soon) and I love how this Giovannio Cinnabar fedora can change an entire look and put together the standout sporty fashion.

With A Slouchy Beanie
The beanie has been a functional winter must-have accessory that goes with more looks than you’d think (and it’s like a warm sweater for your head!) Whether you’re into neutral ensembles or the pop of bright colors, beanies are a statement making hat that has so many hues to go with your outfits. I went for the streetwear aesthetic by adding a slouchy beanie to a modern black leather jacket and a classic trench coat. Underneath I had a tank top tucked in the sweats and a sneaker pairing. I love this classic purple, knitted beanie from San Diego Hat Company – it’s an easy way to add a more playful and dimensional look and keep things semi-streamlined. Now you’re living your best hygge life.
Beanie styling tip: you can pull off the beanie with a variety of styles; either a shorter, longer or the way I did it which is in between. In this photo, I pull the beanie half way down so it hugs my head nicely but leaves the beanie sitting straight on my head. Then I folded the beanie up, this style is also known as “The High-Top” or “I’m not cold, I’m cool.”
